Working together on climate solutions in the Wase municipalities

Interwaas

Commissioned by Interwaas, we guide the Climate Tables, a process in which citizens think together about concrete climate actions in their neighborhood. Through co-creation and participation, we develop action plans with SMART objectives, tailored to local needs and possibilities. This approach strengthens the Wase municipalities' resilience to climate change and gives citizens an active role in achieving regional climate goals.

Why is action being taken?

Addressing climate change together

Interwaas aims to achieve the regional climate objectives and to make the municipalities in Waasland resilient to the consequences of climate change. Through the Climate Tables, citizens are involved in this process.

During these sessions, organized at the neighborhood level, residents work together to discover what climate actions they are willing and able to take. The important thing is that the actions are feasible and sustainable, and what is needed to implement them successfully.

This approach combines participation and collaboration, not only developing actions, but also fostering ownership and involvement of neighborhood residents.

From user research to action plan

Each Climate Table starts with a preliminary user survey, identifying the needs, desires and challenges of the neighborhood residents. This survey ensures that the Climate Table fits the specific situation of the neighborhood.

During the sessions, we work toward a concrete action plan with SMART goals. This action plan contains practical actions that district residents can undertake themselves, supplemented with support and inspiration from a starter book with best practices, tips and tricks.

To promote transparency and cooperation, the results of the Climate Tables are documented and made available through a virtual participation platform. This platform serves as a source of inspiration for other districts and municipalities.

Sustainable results and future plans

So far, six Climate Tables have already been organized in various Wase municipalities, leading to concrete action plans and citizen involvement. These sessions have laid a foundation for further climate actions and strengthened cooperation between citizens and local governments.

Over the next two years, even more neighborhoods and municipalities will be involved, with the goal of creating a sustainable network of climate actions and making the Vienna region resilient to climate change.

Interwaas as a driver of climate action

Interwaas is committed to bringing citizens and governments together in the fight against climate change. With the Climate Tables, they create a platform where ideas, solutions and actions come together, and where local communities actively commit to a sustainable future.
